Why the Holidays are Better with Braces

Are you bummed about having braces this holiday season?

It seems like most people feel that special events or holidays just aren’t as enjoyable when you have braces. However, here at Rollins & Petersen Orthodontics, we like to look at the bright side of things and why having braces during the holidays can actually be a great thing!

5 reasons why the holidays are better with braces:

You can become a better cook and baker by learning new recipes. Many people have traditions surrounding food during the holidays, whether that be family meals that you always have at Christmas or different treats you like to make and share with neighbors. Having braces during the holidays can be the perfect opportunity to alter some of those recipes (or find new ones) that may not be so sticky or sugary. You may just find yourself a new favorite holiday recipe in the process!

You can be more festive. That’s right. Braces allow you to be more festive! By choosing holiday-themed bands for your braces, you have an additional way to spread that holiday cheer every time you flash your smile!

You can expand your horizons. Along the same lines as learning new recipes, having braces may prompt you to try new foods that are braces-friendly when you are eating out with friends and family during the holidays or while attending a holiday party.

You have an easy escape at events. If you are ever feeling overwhelmed or put in an awkward situation at a social event during the holidays, thankfully, you’ll have your handy dandy braces survival kit with you. Oral hygiene is the perfect reason to make a quick escape to the bathroom.

You don’t have to worry as much about weight gain. It’s not a secret that the majority of America over-indulges in both sweet and savory foods during the holidays, which in turn seems to be the motivation behind so many New Year’s resolutions focused on weight loss. However, when you have braces, you are more conscientious about what you are putting into your mouth, and therefore your body, and are less likely to consume foods that will add inches to your waistline.

See? Having braces during the holidays is actually awesome! So, here’s to embracing your braces this holiday season! And if any special needs arise for your orthodontic care, give Rollins & Petersen a call at 480-924-2880.
