Let’s Check Your Smile

Ideally, orthodontic assessments should start early. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children should be evaluated by an orthodontist by age seven so that any issues with jaw growth and development and emerging teeth can be detected. Most children begin orthodontic treatment between the ages of 9 and 14.

During your child’s orthodontic evaluation, Dr. Rollins or Dr. Petersen will ask questions about your child’s past oral health. The mouth and teeth are checked for any signs of malocclusion (crooked teeth or a bad bite). X-rays and photos will be taken of your child’s teeth and face. If necessary, a model will be made of your child’s teeth.

Early discovery of any orthodontic issues means that our orthodontist can begin treatment when it is most advantageous. Dr. Rollins or Dr. Petersen will monitor the development of your child’s teeth and bite until the time is right to begin treatment.

Early orthodontic treatment usually takes less time than adult orthodontics. However, this does not mean that if you did not have orthodontic treatment as a child, it is too late. Orthodontics for adults is becoming more and more common.

Please call Rollins and Petersen today to learn more and to schedule a consultation for yourself or you’re your child.
